Platner Collection "Makes It Modern" on Dwell September Issue Cover

Knoll in the News

Dwell September 2015 | Furniture Makes It ModernThe September issue of Dwell features the Platner Collection in its cover story "French Fix." The issue, Furniture Makes It Modern, focuses on the role of modern furniture in setting a visual tone in interior design, and also includes the Bertoia Diamond Chair and Pollock Executive Chair.

The cover story profiles a small, vibrantly colored Parisian apartment designed by Nicolas Roche. The square-footage–900 square-feet–presented a challenge: How to create the impression of spaciousness and variety? As Dwell describes, Roche employed lush pink and coral accents alongside bright whites, including the five pink Platner Arm Chairs that accompany a Platner Dining Table. Another Platner Arm Chair continues the vivid and playful palette into the living area.

Elsewhere in the issue, Kelsey Keith, Dwell's former special projects editor, lists the Pollock Executive Chair in a section on contributors' favorite pieces of furniture. The Pollock Executive Chair was one "that she waited to buy until she found just the right color combination–a custom ivory tweed upholstery on a black base."

The Diamond Chair, designed by Harry Bertoia for Knoll in 1952, also appears in the issue in a profile of SCP owner Sheridan Coakley's house and furniture testing ground. The house, designed by Hugh K. Harwood and Les Haywood and located in Hampshire, England, is a modern, loft-like update on a sprawling building originally built in the 1970s.

This month, Knoll is releasing the Platner Gold Collection–an 18k gold-plate option for a number of pieces in the Platner Collection, which celebrates its 50th Anniversary in 2016. For more information, contact the Knoll Home Design Shop: 212 343-4190.
