Tracy Wymer, Vice President of Workplace Strategy, Knoll, joined industry leaders in architectural design and furniture manufacturing on a panel at Tech by Design San Francisco on March 1, 2016. The event was organized and hosted by Kontor, the workplace design network that launched in November 2015 to significant media interest. The Tech by Design series is positioned as Kontor's real-life corollary. The company's web platform brings together leading furniture manufacturers and design firms across all phases of a project; Tech by Design hopes to engage a similar network of professionals offline around the community's most pressing and exciting questions.
The panel included Melissa Hanley of Design Blitz, Gregory Mottola of Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, and John Hamilton of Coalesse, as well as Wymer. The discussion, moderated by Kontor Editorial Director William Hanley, centered on the evolving nature of work and raised challenges and opportunites in workplace design today. The group identified recurring attributes of workplace design today, among them adaptability, hospitality, the role of furniture, and the influence of San Francisco Bay Area industries on design around the world.
