As part of the London Design Festival's programming, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, the pair behind the British design studio Barber & Osgerby, have created a reading room in the West Wing of the Somerset House in London. The design duo has won this year's prestigious Panerai London Design Medal, in recognition of excellence and contribution to London and its design industry.
On view for the festival's duration, the Reading Room is an intimate quiet space furnished by Glas Italia and by the pair's designs for Knoll–including the Barber Osgerby Collection of soft lounge furniture, the Piton™ collection of stools and side tables, and the Barber Osgerby Lounge Chair, which was previewed in the United States at NeoCon. The festival invites visitors to "sit and take in" Barber & Osgerby's book One by One.
Somerset House, the creative platform that occupies a historic neoclassical building in the heart of the city, is hosting ten international designers in rooms throughout its West Wing during the festival.
Now in its twelfth year, the London Design Festival annually showcases hundreds of exhibitions, designers and design partners. In addition to furnishing the Reading Room, Knoll is hosting Celebrate Bertoia, part of the year-long celebration of the centennial of Harry Bertoia's birth.
