Tucked away on a quiet residential street in Sydney is a home whose contents, in their various textures and origins, collectively express a keen but calm love of design. The owners of the the abode commissioned local design studio Arent & Pyke to develop a rhythm for the space, using furniture and sculptural objects as compositional elements. Amidst the careful syncopation of pattern and placement, classic designs by Harry Bertoia and Warren Platner for Knoll play a key part.

"Briefed to create a soft and beautiful home, it was imperative that the furnishings, rugs, objects and bespoke elements were both independently and collectively exquisite," explained Juliette Arent, principal designer at Arent & Pyke.

The success of the design hinges on the beauty of its components—considered not only on their own, but in juxtaposition. In the bedroom, for instance, a Platner Easy Chair upholstered in a plush blue suede matches the shade of the wall and complements the graphic artwork that hangs upon it.

"Generous rugs with fleeting motifs create frames for the primary lounge and dining areas," Arent further explained, "while furniture was chosen for combined merits of sculptural form and luxurious comfort. The Bertoia chairs, for example, share their magnificent back view with the kitchen and family dining area, while their comfortable expanse is enjoyed in the lounge."
Considered from every possible angle, the chairs from Knoll selected by Arent & Pyke add to the comfort and warmth of the home while accentuating the designs—whether carpets, vases, or paintings—that surround them. Together, it all forms a rich and beloved space for living.
