The December 2016 edition of Elle Decoration Mexico included the Bertoia Diamond Chair in Gold in its feature on "The Year in Design." In celebration of the Harry Bertoia Centennial, Knoll introduced the iconic lounge chair in an 18 karat gold plated finish, paying homage to the sculptor's preference for the golden quality of beryllium, a golden-hued alloy.
“Harry’s own work was mostly done in beryllium," explained Knoll Design Director Benjamin Pardo, "including many of his Sonambient sculptures.”
The roundup also mentioned the opening of British-Ghanaian architect David Adjaye's National Museum for African American History & Culture, which opened in Washington DC in September. Clad in a bronze lattiuce, the design of the museum echoes many of the principles and concerns Adjaye grappled with while designing the Washington Collection with Knoll.
