Knoll Classics Featured in Luxe January Issue

The Saarinen Dining Table, Womb Chair and Wassily Chair make their mark in the Luxe “2019 Gold List” and “Bauhaus Bold” editorials

Luxe magazine featured classic Knoll designs throughout its inaugural 2019 issue, highlighting the best in design from the past year and how it shapes the vision of home design in the year to come. In its “Gold List 2019”, Luxe interviewed architects and interior designers from across the globe on what products and trends inspire them. Chicago-based interior designer Michael Abrams lauded the timeless design of Eero Saarinen’s Dining Table and Womb Chair for Knoll, emphasizing their enduring appeal in the contemporary interior.

“I am continually inspired by iconic midcentury furniture pieces and incorporate them whenever I can,” Abrams told Luxe of his selections, “Some of my favorites are the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman, the Saarinen Oval Dining Table and the Womb Chair; they work absolutely anywhere. Sixty-plus years later they are as fresh today as they were when introduced.”

Luxe also joined the centennial celebration of the Bauhaus, highlighting the furniture, art and product designs from the movement that remain significant today. Editor Kathryn Given selected the Wassily Chair, designed by Marcel Breuer and named after Bauhaus painter Wassily Kandinsky, as emblematic of the era of design and possessing a lasting appeal. Given praises the Bauhaus mission to, “unify all arts, including painting, architecture and sculpture into a single craft allowing for a reimagined material world in which artisans created both beautiful and functional items. While originally radical, Bauhaus design continues to influence products created a century later.”
